Another year, another birthday celebration and just like last year it was spent in a Vegan restaurant, called Veg Bar. As you already know, the plant based lifestyle is the way myself and my family have decided to go and my boyfriend is also coming around to it (yippy). So this time friends and family headed into the urban streets of Brixton (in London), where the streets are busy right into the early hours of the morning as are some of the restaurants.
Veg Bar was chosen by the birthday girl (my sister) and to be honest I’ve had Veg Bar on my list of Vegan restaurants to go to. Veg Bar surprising is not amongst other restaurants which makes its unique business stand out. I say stand out as Brixton is known as a heavy cultural Afro-Caribbean community, where meat is sourced all over.
I was really excited to try Veg Bar as I also follow them on Instagram and love the pictures of the meals and drinks! I thought if the pictures could look this good, then yes I certainly would love to try the food. Veg Bar is shabby chic with a relaxed chilled environment where the dress code is also relaxed, but having said that there is no reason why you couldn’t dress for the occasion.
I started the evening with a Rosé Lemonade which was not to sweet but really refreshing. For starters I had Jackfruit Taco, a corn tortilla with shredded Jackfruit glazed with BBQ sauce, pickled red onion, guacamole and salsa. This was followed by my main which I struggled with! Before turning plant based one of my all time favourite foods was burgers and I loved fish, so it was a toss up between the The VegFather or the Tufish. It was a very close call but in the end I chose The VegFather, though I did have a sneeky taste of the Tofish and my God, it is the best Vegan fish and chips iv’e ever had ( I’m still dreaming of it!). The VegFather was a delicious two soya patty served with amazing sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, onion rings, coleslaw and wedges. I was so stuffed there wasn’t a chance in hell I could of gone onto dessert, so I left it right there. Though I do wished I had room for dessert as they looked AMAZING!!!
